Set just a few steps away from Ipswich’s historic waterfront, the Merchant House, which was built in 1636, offers beautifully restored self-catering accommodation that is full of character and charm.

Available to book as a part of our weddings and special events packages, as well as for long weekends and mid-week stays, the house sleeps up to 14 guests, with four double bedrooms and four sofa beds located in the two living spaces. It also has a full kitchen, a dining room, four bathrooms and a downstairs cloakroom.

Stay within easy reach of Ipswich’s bustling town centre and near the waterfront with its stunning views and wide array of bars and restaurants. Or venture further afield to explore the Suffolk countryside – including Constable country – and coastline. With easy access to main roads, and the train and bus stations both around a 20-minute walk away, whatever your plans, the Merchant House makes an ideal base for your Suffolk adventure.

Checking In/Out

Check in at the Merchant House is from 16:00 on the day of arrival. Check out time is 11:00 on the day of departure.

Dining out with Isaacs on the Quay

As a part of the Isaac Lord complex, the Merchant House has easy access to our family of bars and restaurants, including our Coffee Tavern and Dockside Deli.

Our Coffee Tavern is open for breakfast from 07:30 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends, serving a wide selection, including vegetarian and vegan options, and a range of hot drinks too.

Our main menu is served daily from 11:30 – 21:00, 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.


Please note that while there is no on-site parking at The Merchant House, there are several public pay and display car parks just a few minutes’ walk away.
